Details: A veritable death metal ejaculation, sorry, congregation. Spewing "100% death metal" over three days from all corners of the globe, the German town of Hunxe will play host to some of the genres sickest bands. Not only will punters be treated to such lesser known delights as Italy's Septycal Gorge and Poland's Nuclear Vomit, but Swedish heavyweights Grave will play a specially constructed 20th Anniversary set. Joined by the likes of Morgoth, Gorguts, Krisiun, Pestilence and Vader, we think that the ticket price of 49 Euro for a 3-Day ticket - including camping and parking - represents a darn cheap German holiday. Take your whole family and you'll probably have enough change for a slap up Bratwurst dinner to boot!

Details: For the first time in their almost 25 year history, Atheist are set to play on Irish soil. Okay, so they weren't active for all that time, taking a well-documented sabbatical between '94 and '06, but that takes nothing away from the legendary status of their highly influential masterwork, Piece Of Time. In these times when technicality has become commonplace in metal, get yourselves along to the show and see how the groundbreaking grandfathers of jazz inspired progressive technicality did it back in their day - and still do it today!

Details: This is it; the last word in death metal arrives in the shape of London Deathfest 12. Nine bands intent on destroying London, ably spearheaded by the infamous Florida fathers of all that is unholy: Deicide. This time with a certain Mr Benton in tow. The whole bill, from opener Oblivionized to the headliner, reeks of quality (if not of putrefaction), and with Deicide firmly back on the map, expect this to be one of the most intense performances of 2011; Benton and co. have something to prove, and intend to take no prisoners. What more could anyone wish for? A Zero Tolerance stall you say? Oh, go on then... see you there!

Details: Maybe something has been lost in translation but we don't really get what's obscene about this festival in the Czech Republic, nothing points to the headliners cavorting onstage naked. That said, it's definitely extreme judging by this year's lineup - so full marks there chaps. Okay, so further down the bill lurk bands with such ill-advised names as Idiot Convention and The Afternoon Gentlemen, but we reckon that the mass of underground artists and combination of Entombed, Brutal Truth, Rotten Sound, European festival beer, burgers plus probably a little too much sun resulting in some serious lobster action and a few pools of puke with cut-off combat trouser clad men lying face down in them more than makes up for this little faux pas. If European festivals are your bag, we think you'd be a bit of an idiot to miss this one! An idiot convention it is not.

Details:After much apathy and moaning about lack of gigs in the Midlands, Death By Metal is here to put things right. With a lineup of death metal talent drawn from around the country, as well as highlighting local metal talent, this is something to whet the appetite of all lovers of the extreme. And at just 3GBP in advance and 4GBP on the door, there is surely no reason why the venue should not be rammed to the rafters. Hopefully this will be the first of many events to help bring metal back to the Midlands
